Specialist Care at Every Age
What is a Pediatric Dentist?
Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. They
have the experience and qualifications to care for a child's teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the
various stages of childhood. Children begin to get their baby teeth during the first 6 months of life. They
start to lose their first set of teeth by age 6 or 7 years, which eventually are replaced by secondary,
permanent teeth. Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can
cause a lifetime of pain and complications.
Children are not always able to be patient and cooperative during a dental exam. Pediatric dentists
know how to examine and treat children in ways that make them comfortable, utilizing specially
designed equipment with children in mind.
Pediatric Dentists complete at least four years of dental school, and two additional years of residency
training in dentistry for infants, children, teens, and children with special needs. Pediatric dentists offers
a wide range of treatment options, as well as expertise and training to care for your child’s teeth, gums,
and mouth.

What is an Endodontist?
An endodontist is a dentist that spent an additional 2-3 years beyond dental school focusing on root canal treatment. Less than 3% of all dentists are endodontists. Their additional training focuses on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canal treatment. The average endodontist completes 25 root canal treatments a week, while general dentists do about 2 root canals a week. Because they limit their practice solely to endodontic treatment, endodontists are efficient and precise. Endodontists are able to complete root canal treatments in less time, usually one short visit, as opposed to multiple long visits that general dentists require which equates to positive experiences and faster healing.
